Anabasine is a chemical compound found in tobacco. It is an isomer of nicotine: it has the same chemical formula but a different shape of molecule.
Because small amounts of anabasine are found in tobacco but not in synthetic nicotine used in nicotine replacement therapy, it can be used in drug tests to tell the difference between people using tobacco and those taking nicotine.[1]
