Hi there, Factcheckedits. I did some work on Saranne Cooke during New Page Review and noticed that you made further edits to it. While additional work is welcome, I wanted to give you a few pointers:

  • Please don't replace quality secondary sources like the Sydney Morning Herald with WP:PRIMARYSOURCES like you did here. Primary sources are permitted in limited circumstances but secondary sources are always preferred.
  • In general, biographies should be ordered chronologically, see MOS:BLPCHRONO; please don't move the chronology out of order.
  • Facebook pages are almost never reliable sources, especially for a [[WP:BLP|biography of a living person].
  • Every claim in a BLP that could be challenged should be reliably sourced, so please do not remove tags calling for a citation unless you have added a citation to a reliable source to address every claim in a given statement.
  • Finally, do you have any connection to Cooke or to Racing NSW? I only ask because almost all of your edits are to the page on Cooke or to Peter V'landys. If there's any connection, please read WP:COI for steps to take.

Thanks and happy editing! Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:17, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Dclemens1971. Thank you for the work that you did on Saranne Cooke during New Page Review. I just wanted to reply to the bullet points that you raised above:
- I didn't intend to replace the SMH source that you had included as the first reference. It just seemed to be more relevant to the information in the second paragraph under the heading "Racing NSW" rather than the hyperlink to "director".
- Thank you for reordering the page chronologically - I appreciate that in general they should be although I didn't understand this to be a hard and inflexible policy.
- I understand your point about FB pages but thought it would not be that controversial when referencing where someone attended secondary school.
- In respect of the challenges to references 11 and 12 which are official responses by the NSW Government to questions raised by a Member of Parliament, these are reliable and verified Government documents and, as such, it would be greatly appreciated if the challenges were removed. They are similar to Hansard which reports on what is said in Australian Parliaments or a transcript of what was said in the US House or Senate.
- I am aware of the Wiki policies as well as the requirements in respect of conflicts of interest and maintain that the edits that I have made and the page that I have created comply with all Wiki policies.
I look forward to your consideration of the above. Factcheckedits (talk) 04:33, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying. A few things to read that may be helpful. Being a professional director is fairly rare and particularly so for someone notable for that activity (which Cooke is), so it's the kind of fact that needs a reliable source per WP:BLP. You can read WP:FACEBOOK for the challenges associated with the subject. You can read WP:PRIMARYSOURCES for the difference between official government reports and proceedings and secondary coverage of those proceedings. Primary sources may be used in limited ways but for contentious claims, particularly about living people, secondary sources are needed.
Finally, I note that you did not actually answer my question about COI. I did not ask if you are aware and compliant of Wikipedia policies; I asked do you have any connection to Cooke or to Racing NSW? Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:20, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
