Some advice about a possible unblock

[edit]

I restored your talk page access because both I and other administrators thought that your latest UTRS appeal was much better than things you have previously said, both here and at UTRS, and we are prepared to give you a chance to show that you are willing to change. However, that absolutely does not mean that we are certain that you will do so. I wouldn't like to try to estimate how many times over the years I have seen blocked editors post unblock requests full of the kind of promises that they think will get them unblocked, only to return to the same behaviour that got them blocked in the first place. And do you know what happens then? They get blocked again pretty damned soon, with far less likelihood of ever bring unblocked again. Obviously I hope that you will change your approach (otherwise I wouldn't have restored your talk page access). However, if you are unblocked and return to your old ways don't expect yet another chance, on top of all the chances you've already been given: this is likely to be the last one. Request reason:

Hello. The ability to edit my talk page was returned to me by the user "JBW" after the request for unblocking (UTRS appeal #105390), which he called "much better than things you (user Algirr) have previously said". I promise that I will try to do everything so that these incidents of rudeness do not happen again, and for example I will contact other users less to avoid this as much as possible (but enough to maintain the ability to resolve conflicts of edits and additions), focusing instead on adding new content and mostly creating more articles in Wikipedia.Algirr (talk) 05:23, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Voorts: I am okay with an unblock with an unblock (see longer comment here).
@Algirr: As I have said earlier, I believe you have something useful to contribute to wikipedia, which unfortunately has been stymied by assumption of bad faith and consequent battleground conduct. I hope you will take this opportunity to edit more collaboratively and use the resources and processes that wikipedia offers to settle any disputes that may arise in the future. If you have any questions about these processes feel free to ask at WP:TEAHOUSE, my talkpage, or approach any experienced editor you trust to get a sanity check. All the best. Thanks. I hope you will find time to check other articles. One of them is about the Tadmor prison massacre, but if you look at it, please make your decision thoughtfully - I know that there was an article like this before and it was removed for being useless and having bad sources. But my article is much larger in size, it has more sources and information that is not listed anywhere else on the English Wikipedia Algirr (talk) 18:20, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Abo Yemen just in case, pending articles are on my user page Algirr (talk) 18:26, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've read the massacre article, and it was a really interesting read. I did find some of the language used in that draft a bit un-encyclopedic (e.g. the government carried out its cruel revenge), but that's an easy fix 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:37, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Algirr They've had two AFAIK. To "implement the five-year plan" was a part of South Yemen's motto :). It would be nice of you to write something about south yemen's five year plans 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 03:24, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, I forgot about the motto. Did they only have two plans? I think if they had one, they had many others, since it's pretty standard for communist regimes to always use five-year plans.
I think I'll get around to writing that article later, of course (and IF I have enough sources on the South Yemeni plans), since I'm also interested in that topic (though I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable about it as you are). However, for now, I want to focus as much as possible on Ba'athist Syria—I already have a lot of new articles planned on it. Algirr (talk) 03:56, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed your work quite deeply and it is rather good. There are some mistakes in the writing, but content creation is much more important that making sure every single thing is grammatical and what not. Other people can help you with that. However, I do think you should look at MOS:CITE since only the article creator knows about the citations in the article so it is important that they are complete and descriptive. Great work on Syria!

[edit]

You are doing great work on Syrian Ba'ath related articles! :) Ba'athist Syria article is beginning to get great coverage. I have only one comment really. You moved the page Corrective Movement (Syria) to Corrective Revolution (Syria), and then created the article Corrective Movement program (Syria). Ideally, this should be one article.

The Corrective Movement encompassed the seizure of power and the policies produced by it. Or at the very least, you need to connect those two articles better together.

Those are my words of wisdom, good luck! :) + since you are Russian, if you ever want to work on a Soviet-related article please inform me. I am planning to fix the article on the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union and the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union in line with my previous articles on unified power, supreme state organ of power and the permanent organ of the supreme state organ of power. TheUzbek (talk) 10:42, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

+1 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:57, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheUzbek Thank you for the kind words) I believe these two articles should be kept separate, since one talks about the seizure of power itself (and very briefly about Assad's subsequent actions, simply because the article I wrote didn't exist at the time), while the other talks about specific actions over the next 30 years aimed at reform. In my opinion, my article contains enough information to warrant a separate article. Well, and also, in my humble opinion, this division into articles generates more interest in the topic than if they were merged into one article.
I'd be happy to say something about the USSR, and I'll likely do so in the future, but for now I want to focus entirely on Baathist Syria—I have a whole series of articles about it that I plan to write. Besides, the USSR is certainly covered MUCH better on Wikipedia than Baathist Syria, so it needs less revision. Algirr (talk) 19:10, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And I also want to start by completely using up the huge number of sources about Syria that I have accumulated, so that I can forget about it with a clear conscience. Algirr (talk) 19:11, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
