Questions about quotient space

It is stated that quaternions can be cast as $$\mathbb {R} \langle X,Y\rangle /(X^{2}+1,\,Y^{2}+1,\,XY+YX)$$ Can someone provide a reference for this? Also, "cast as" means that the two rings are homomorphic (or isomorphic)? Ma8ematiX (talk) 17:39, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
