Pieter Pauwel (Peter Paul) Rubens (28 June 1577 – 30 May 1640) was a painter.

Early life

He was born "in the German province of Westfalia, where his [... Calvinist][1]Flemish family had fled to escape religious persecution in Antwerp. In 1578, they moved to Cologne", according to media; The family moved back to Antwerp in 1589.[2]

He was good at painting many subjects: portraits, stories from the bible or other books and landscapes. He painted in the Baroque style. Paintings in this style have a lot of action and color. Many of his paintings have a sensual touch. Some of them can be seen as erotic.
