Kuldeep Yadav (born 14 December 1994 in Kanpur) is an Indian cricketer. He is a left arm wrist spin bowler who bats left-handed. In domestic first-class cricket, he has played for Uttar Pradesh since 2013/14. Yadav has also played for Kolkata Knight Riders (2014/15 to 2020/21) and Delhi Capitals (from 2022) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).[1]
Yadav's career began when he joined a cricket academy in Kanpur where, inspired by Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan, he began as a fast bowler. However, his coach Kapil Pandey suggested something unusual—switching to left-arm wristspin (the unorthodox style of left arm spin bowling which was formerly known as a "chinaman"). This change wasn't easy, and Kuldeep even considered going back to fast bowling. But he soon realised that left-arm wristspin suited him better. He not only had good control over his deliveries but also mastered the tricky "wrong'un".[2]
There have been few bowlers like Yadav in India, so he quickly gained attention, and performed well at the Under-19 level. He began his international career in the 2014 U-19 Cricket World Cup, where he took a hat-trick in one match, and was India's top wicket-taker in the tournament.[3]He was eventually selected for 2014 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Kuldeep Yadav made a significant mark in the World Cup. [4]
Yadav has played in international cricket for India since 2017. He made his debut in a Test match against Australia at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in March of that year.[5] He has also played for India in the One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) formats.[1]
In December 2019, Yadav became the first Indian bowler to record two hat-tricks in international cricket, both in ODI matches. His first was against Australia in 2017, and the second against West Indies in 2019.[6]
