The team moved to the state of Tennessee in 1997. They played in Memphis for one season before moving to Nashville. For two seasons, the team was known as the Tennessee Oilers. They changed their name to the Titans in 1999. Tennessee played in Super Bowl XXXIV, losing 23–16 to the St. Louis Rams.
