In early 2021, the company surpassed more than 2 million students on its platform from 150 countries.[1]
History
[edit]Simplilearn was founded in 2010 by Indian entrepreneur Krishna Kumar, a student of the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal.[2][3]
In September 2013, Simplilearn.com raised $10 million in Series B funding from Helion Venture Partners and Kalaari Capital to diversify and expand its course[4] In April 2015, Simplilearn.com raised US$15 million in a Series C round led by Mayfield, with participation from existing investors Kalaari Capital and Helion Ventures.[5]
In September 2016, Simplilearn.com secured US$6 million in venture debt from InnoVen Capital India to support growth, alongside Capillary Technologies.[6] In January 2017, it raised $40 million in a Series D round to support acquisitions and expansion.[7]
In June 2019, the company partnered with IBM to launch courses in artificial intelligence and data science.[8] In November of the same year, the company partnered with Purdue University.[9][10] In July 2020, the company partnered with the University of Massachusetts Amherst.[11] In 2021, Blackstone acquired a majority stake in the Bangalore- and San Francisco–based edtech company Simplilearn in a deal valued at $250 million.[12] In 2022, raised $45 million in a new funding round led by GSV Ventures.[13]
In November 2022, Simplilearn acquired U.S.-based Fullstack Academy, a bootcamp education company.[14] In October 2024, it moved its U.S. headquarters from San Francisco to Plano, Texas.[15] In June 2025, Simplilearn.com appointed Jitendra Kumar as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).[16]
Partnerships
[edit]In October 2024, it entered into a partnership with Degreed to integrate its course catalogue into Degreed’s AI-powered learning platform as part of the “AI-Ready” partner category.[17] In June 2025, the University of Cambridge Online introduced a professional development programme titled Managing Software Architecture through Cambridge Advance Online.[18] In June 2025, Simplilearn launched the Generative AI Applications for Leaders program in collaboration with Michigan Engineering Professional Education.[19][20] In May 2025, Simplilearn launched a Professional Certificate Program in Lean Six Sigma in collaboration with Virginia Tech.[21]
