Beaver Rocks is an annual indie game and creative culture festival hosted by Smilegate Future Lab in Seoul, South Korea. Originally known as Burning Beaver , the event was rebranded as Beaver Rocks in 2025.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The festival was held in Garosu-gil, Seoul in 2022.[3] In 2023, the event moved to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).[4] The 2024 festival attracted over 10,000 visitors and 83 participating indie game teams.[5]

In August 2025, Smilegate Future Lab officially announced the rebranding of Burning Beaver to Beaver Rocks to better reflect the spirit of creators “rocking” the world through independent creation.[1][6]

Format

[edit]

Beaver Rocks offers offline and online programs. In offline, it features playable booths where visitors can try out indie games, installations, and interactive media contents. In online, the festival offers downloadable or streaming demo game files .[7] The festival ends with the Beaver Featured Awards, which recognize innovative and experimental works in indie game.[8]

Attendance and Reception

[edit]

According to Smilegate Future Lab, cumulative attendance across its first three years reached approximately 28,000 visitors.[9] The festival has been covered by multiple Korean media including GameMeca, Seoul Economic Daily, Global Economic, etc.[2][1][6]
