Bazaar Technologies Pvt. Ltd is a Pakistan-based e-commerce and financial services technology company with headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan. The company provides grocery delivery for households and businesses with everyday low pricing through the Bazaar App.[1][2][3][4]

History

[edit]

Bazaar Technologies was established in 2020 by Hamza Jawaid and Saad Jangda. The company launched with a mobile-based service on the Bazaar App that enabled households and businesses to digitally order groceries and inventory at wholesale prices. By early 2021, Bazaar had onboarded thousands of customers in major Pakistani cities.[5][6][7]

In March 2021, Bazaar launched Easy Khata, a digital bookkeeping app to help households and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) keep a track of all their transactions. It onboarded 100,000+ users in the first month, and to-date has over 5 million users on the app.[8][9][10]

In April 2023, Bazaar launched Bazaar Prime, a sole distribution partnership for retail suppliers and manufacturers. The vertical offers go-to-market strategies for brands in designated markets with dedicated resources and operational set up.[11]

In September 2024, Bazaar launched Bazaar Pro, an end-to-end procurement platform that provides ease in procurement for businesses. The platform maintains a catalogue of 2000+ products across 30+ categories, from groceries to electronics. Bazaar Pro includes flexible payment terms to its customers.[12]

Acquisitions

[edit]

In March 2025, Bazaar Technologies acquired Keenu (a Wemsol Pvt Ltd company), following approval from the Competition Commission of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan. Keenu is an established Pakistani fintech company that offers digital payment services to consumers and businesses. It has built a merchant acquiring network in over 150 cities across Pakistan, providing a range of payment services including point-of-sale (POS), an online payment gateway, and a mobile wallet app. The acquisition enabled Bazaar to enhance its financial services.[13][14][15] In 2025, Keenu got full commercial EMI license.[16]

Funding

[edit]

In 2020, Bazaar raised US$1.3 million in a pre-seed round led by Indus Valley Capital, with participation from Alter Global and regional angel investors.[17] In 2021, the company secured US$6.5 million in a seed round with participation from Global Founders Capital, Indus Valley Capital, and Alter Global.[18] Later that year, it raised US$30 million in a Series A round led by Defy Partners and Wavemaker Partners, which was among the larger Series A investments in Pakistan at the time.[19][20] In 2022, Bazaar closed a US$70 million Series B round co-led by Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group who cited Bazaar's traction in retail digitization and supply chain infrastructure. In total, Bazaar has raised over US$100 million in venture capital.[21][22][23]

Recognition

[edit]

Bazaar Technologies Pvt. Ltd has received recognition from both academic institutions and international media for its role in advancing digital commerce in Pakistan. In 2021, co-founders Hamza Jawaid and Saad Jangda were named in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia under the Retail & E-Commerce category for their work with the company.[24] In 2022, the company was featured in a case study by Harvard Business School, titled Pakistan Rising: Bazaar’s Growth Story (A).[25] The company also received the Prime Minister Excellence Award in 2022 in recognition of their contributions to the tech sector in Pakistan, and the Top Startup Award at the National IT Seminar in 2023. The recognition highlighted their efforts in building infrastructure for the under-served kiryana stores and for attracting international capital to a nascent startup ecosystem in Pakistan.[26][27]

Bazaar Technologies has also received in-depth coverage by publications including Forbes,[28] Bloomberg News,[29] Tech Crunch,[30] Dawn,[31] and The Express Tribune[32][33] among others.[34][35][36]
